I have noticed that if you slog through the 1000s of error messages in the where-used inquiry you can eventually get a report that tells you where every item is used.

An interesting thought came to mind that if we could set the flag differently to select ONLY items for INACTIVE parents we could very easily get a list a of items that require flushing from our inventories...

Is this possible? Does anyone else see value in this type of report? ::)

I have an Excel Report or WINSQL Script that lists out all the item numbers that meet this criteria.   Please contact me if interested.

I agree with you - it would be easy enough to do in Access - I was asking a question to see if it would be something useful for everyone- if such, it would probably be an easy report to suggest adding.

If it wasn't useful to others, of course I would take the time to make it in Access.

I have had several similar requests off the forum as well.  How does this sound?

Filter for From/Through Item Number, Class, Category.  Enter type (default to R but allow others).  Also prompt for Include only Active items so anything already marked as Inactive would be excluded.

Finally, prompt for Inactive Parents, No Parent or Both (I/N/B).

Items would be included on the report if they belong to no BOM and/or if all BOMs they do belong to are for Inactive parents.  After the report prints, you have the option to make them all Inactive and/or transfer them all to a different Item Class so all your unused stock could be assigned to a single class and reported on easily in the future.

Comments and suggestions welcome before I send this to programming.

Maybe I am missing something (likely I am), but can it also have a "last issued", "last received" date criteria as well?  Then I could look specifically at anything that had NOT been used, or received, or both, since (as an example) last Jan. 1, 2003...

Maybe that is part of "Active" or "Inactive" parts, but I have not figured that out either...:-(

That information is already available at UT-A, program BKACT.  It looks at transaction data and returns a list of parts with no transaction activity of the type specified for the date range entered.

UT-A, Program BKACT.  Create a report name and for the Primary Filter, if you ONLY wnat items that have had no activity, choose the last one - Active+Changed.  The report will list all active items with no activity of the specified type within the dates entered and suggest changing status to Inactive.  You can make the change of status or just print the report and leave the status alone.

OK, this one is done for the 4/23 update.  Select range of Items, Class, Category, Type.  Choose No Parent, Only Inactive Parent(s) or both.  Report lists items with no Parent or only Inactive Parents, as selected, both description lines, Type, Calss, Category, unit cost and extended value of on-hand stock subtotaled by Class.  After viewing the report, you are given the option to make the parts Inactive and/or change them to a different Item Class.
