One thing I really miss from our old system is a way to search the description field for paterns of letters and numbers.

Id love to be able to enter a word or part of a word and have the system display a list of part numbers with that in the description field(s)

We already have that. It is sold as an addon on http://www.istechsupport.com/addonut.asp It's called Generic Search Engine. Allows users to create your own lookups and do substring searches. :)

I originally did this about 3 years ago using IDC's and Microsoft Internet Information Server (their web server).

Since I hate IIS (ours was the old one that came with NT 4), I have since installed Apache. Now I do it with a PHP script that accesses the DBA data files through ODBC.
