Title: MRP Planner Codes
Post by sharon krewson on 04/21/04 at 06:36:19

Our Material Manager would like to add Planner Codes to our inventory components and link it to the MRP function.  The planner code would then be used as a sorting parameter in the Order Action Report and Material Requirements Report.

Is this possible?  If not, is there another field that can be used?  We are already using category.  The planner code would allow our purchasing department to sort even further.

Thanks for your help!
Sharon

There is a 'User Defined Sort Field' in IN-B if you aren't using it already.

The data is held in the MTICMSTR File MTIC_PROC_SUBST[1] Field.

We are using the User defined sort field already.  Also, this field is not available as a sort parameter when running the Order Action Report or Material Requirements report.

We basically would like to assign parts to a buyer.  In our case, we may have more than one buyer working within a category.

We don't use many of the fields in Inventory such as weight and foot factor.  We thought about using one of those fields but we still can't pick it as a sort field in MRP.

Have you considered using a custom report in Access or Crystal or some such that would allow the flexability to use whatever YOU wanted/needed?

Sounds like a worthwhile request to me.  In the meantime, it could be accomplished through customization, or through Access or Crystal if you have in-house capability or a consultant.

One out-of-the-box thought; assuming your Buyers correlate to Vendors, could you add a suffix to the vendor code for sorting?  Vendor #23556 would become Vendor#1-23556 and would be handled by Buyer #1?

Thanks for your input.  We already use Crystal Reports quite a bit.  But, we were hoping to stay within the DBA/EVO module.  If there is an add on program out there then we would definitely be interested in looking at it.

If Lynn can't incorporate this into the MRP then I will start working on a Crystal Report.

Lynn (programming Goddess  :-*) - What is your 2 cents before I start working on Crystal?

Anything is possible, it is simply a matter of priorities.  There are some database fields in the inventory tables that are currently unused and could store the Planner - how many characters do you want?  And what reports do you want it to be available in?   I would think MR-G, H, J, K and IN-D could all potentially be filtered by planner so each planner could get a report of only their items.  Maybe PO-I-A as well.

How much interest is there in something like this?  Anybody else interested?

I can see a future need for planner codes.  At a minimum, 2 digits, alpha-numeric, would offer a large number of planner codes.  It's too early in the morning to calculate how many.

:) I'm glad to see there is interest out there.

2 or 3 digits would work for us.

We definately have an interest in this.  4 digits would be good for us.

We are a new subscriber to IS Tech as of 12/14. Where can we update the Planner Code?

If you've installed the ISTS updates, it's in MR-D, Enter MRP parameters. Also under the MRP button in IN-B, Enter inventory.

Is there a place to set a default planner code? If not, can one be added to either SD-D or SD-Q? I'd like to be sure any new parts created from scratch will be assigned to someone. Parts created by copying from an existing part do copy over this field.
