Title: Packing Lists
Post by wildco on 12/09/04 at 12:53:22

One idea our shipping clerk had was to prink packing slips in bin location order.  Not sure if it is possible or how kits would work out but would save some time.

I can see totally the point to printing a PICKING list in bin order, but why a packing list??

This would benefit us also.  The Packing List is the document used to pick Items from Inventory for shipment.  Having the Packing List in Bin order can save trips through the stock room on a long list of items to ship.

The Pick List (WO-D) is used for picking items from Inventory for a Work Order.  For us, this program is completely useless because we do not necessarily release Work Orders in numeric order.  Rather, they are released based on component availability and ship dates.

If we could select specific Work order numbers to consolidate on one report, then we could use it.

We use the packing list to pull items for shipment.  We usually use Work Orders to make items to stock, then ship as customers order.  Therefore, the pick list would not help us very much as Work Orders do not correspond to Sales Orders at all.

Thank you!

OK, then I might suggest that a more logical approach would be to have a Sales Order pick list created that could have multiple sorts and possibly even sorts within sorts created. I would think that would be an overall better and more global solution.

Just my 2 cents worth though.... ;)

The Packing List IS a Sales Order Pick List.  It does not make any sense to create yet another report to print just to ship somthing out the door.

Let me check into what it would take to have an option to print Packing Slips or Shippers or whatever we want to call them (SO-C) to print in Bin Location order to make it easier to pull parts for shipment.  The Bin Location is already on the document but rearranging the print order of the lines may be tricky.

It depends how you use them. We have two different T6SOC4s, printed using SO-C. When orders are entered the lines are not released, and a Pick List is printed for every order; with the order amount, and fill-in spaces for Shipped and BackOrdered; and sent to shipping.

Once the order has been picked and packed (anywhere from the same day to a month later) the Pick List is sent back to the office. The Sales Orders are released and then we print Packing Lists, answering the questions so that the Original, Actual, and Backorder amounts for all released lines are printed. This is what is sent to the customer. This allows us to mark up the Pick List any way we want because the customer isn't going to see it, and what they do get looks more professional, because everything on it is printed.

We use the same procedure whether the order is from stock or make-to-stock.

And David's way WAS my point. A "sales order pick list" would be a working report and a "packing list" would be a final document form meant to be sent to the customer.
