Title: Change Defaults
Post by David Waldmann on 12/22/04 at 06:25:28

It would be great to be able to change the default answers to dialog boxes (for instance, after printing Invoices, the defaults are "Yes" to email and "No" to mark as printed. I'd rather that both were changed to the opposite).

I second the request to change the default answer to "yes" for marking invoices as printed.

We have people that fly through the step of printing invoices and just hit the "enter" key to go on to printing the next invoice, which accepts the default answer as "no".  When the next person attempts to post daily invoices, they find out that none of the invoices were processed as marked for printing.

If the defaults can be user-specified, as I read David's request, I'd go for that. But not a global change to "Y" for mark as printed. Sorry, lmk223a, but its much safer this way. You can always reprint to the screen and say "Y".  That's way easier than having to void invoices that were posted inadvertantly, because they were accidentally marked as printed.

I wasn't suggesting that the universal program defaults be changed, just that the end user be able to change them, probably company-wide.

However, as far as the concept of marking invoices printed or not, I've never seen the logic for the default as No. Why would you not want to mark an invoice as printed? The only case I can think of is if you made a mistake that you didn't see until it was on paper in front of you, in which case you'd want to fix it right away. Then the potential problem is if you've got people posting invoices at any old time without warning.

If your company procedures dictate the need to review printed invoices before posting then you could leave it the way it is, but I'd think that you were in the minority.

David, that's what I thought you meant. "Global change" was a poor choice of words on my part. What I meant was that if each end user could not set this default, I would be against the change.  If the default were set to Y the "people that fly through the step of printing invoices and just hit the "enter" key to go on to printing the next invoice, which accepts the default" is what I would be concerned about. But, I wouldn't be surprised at all to be in the minority. Guess I'm just a belt & suspenders kind of gal.  ;)
