Title: UPS / FEDEX - Residential vs Commercial Post by bwesson on 01/25/05 at 09:52:19 Packages shipped via UPS and FedEx to residential addresses are billed to us at a higher rate. We are a customer of UPS and in the UPS WorldShip program, the shipping clerk selects a checkbox in the program when a package is to be delivered to a residential address. A rate adjustment is made by the program. The UPS WorldShip shipping clerk uses the DBA Acknowledgement to type in the shipping address. Our DBA users have come to populate the contact information with both the contact name and an indicator of residential/commercial in the same field. Obviously this is not a best practice. It seems to me that all DBA using companies have this issue with their shipments; finding a way to get this information to the UPS/FEDEX programs. Could this information (residential/commercial) be stored as part of the customer record (BKARCUST) and used to populate the sales order (BKARINV)? |

That way even if a customer that is normally residential asks for a shipment to a commercial address it could still be accomodated. |

Title: Re: UPS / FEDEX - Residential vs Commercial Post by Tim Keating on 01/25/05 at 17:09:24 To me, the RES/COM designation is address specific. An address is either residential or commercial and it is not going to change. A specific customer may have multiple ship-to locations that may be a mix of residential and commercial and they could be designated as such. This would transfer to the packing list and invoice. I agree this would be useful to us. If it can't be done easily I think Ragine's solution is a good one and I'm going to implement it in the meantime. |
Title: Re: UPS / FEDEX - Residential vs Commercial Post by Karen Mason on 01/26/05 at 14:37:48 We are strictly industrial users so I'm not sure this would work for you big UPS/FEDEX users. Our main customers are setup in AR (or CM). AR code might be ABCCO. If there are multiple shipping addresses, then we setup a "shipping customer" ABCCO1; ABCCO2 etc. This could be where you specify your commercial/residential. When entering orders, you select the proper SHIP TO code. I think this is shown in some of the old DBA tutorials. |
Title: Re: UPS / FEDEX - Residential vs Commercial Post by David Waldmann on 02/09/05 at 10:49:20 The way we handle it is that whenever we set up a new shipping address (either adding to an existing account or a new account) we also enter it into the UPS system, and check off if it's residential. We use Customer IDs in UPS, so they match up with DBA. On a similar note, do you have the same problem with UPS's inconsistency of selecting the classification of an address? I have some customers that I have changed back and forth dozens of times, because no sooner do I change it from Residential back to Commercial then I get an adjustment on my next bill telling me it's Residential again. |
