We have one workstation that never has the right date when you go to enter a sales order. The date defaults to the year 2001. today it 8-6-2001, tomorrow it will be 8-7-2001?????

Most of the time the guy who uses that machine remembers to change the date....but not always.

this problem is only on 1 machine and it may only be in the sales order module...but not for sure because that guy only enters SO, WO & PO.

Any and all help appreciated.

Just curious - what's the system time/date on that workstation?

Bingo Tim!!!

The system date was set to 8-6-2001, and that fixed it.

But....

1) why did the System date only effect SO-A?
2) what would cause the system date to go back in time (I would think it had to have human help..)

I ask this because if the date is wrong on the system, it will be wrong in SO-A as well.

If the system is not maintaining the proper time then you probably need to replace the CMOS battery on the mother board, reflash your BIOS and maybe consider setting up time synchronization on your network (although the last step is not necessary).

Sorry I answered before I saw your post. It should answer part of your question though.

As far as what is affected - I don't know. Some things might pull time from the server. I would suspect, though, that other dates are affected, that user just might not use the other modules.

Here's a neat little program I use to keep all the workstations synced up.
http://www.arachnoid.com/abouttime

This program acts as a client and server. You can set it up on a machine that has internet access, and let it serve the local net.

no....thats the weird part. He enters a lot of POs and the default date is always current and correct.
He had no problems with WO either....and he prints a lot of travelers.

he never gets into GL ...so I can't speak for that.

Its just weird that it only effect SO-A.

Lorne might know.

(if it regresses again I will change the battery)

There is NOTHING in my experience that would pull a date different than the system date for one functional component of a client server software system. Then again, I have seen all kinds of things that are downright WEIRD happen in my years in this business. What is really neat is Lynn has seen even more! :)

Oh and Laura, if it is the CMOS battery causing a problem, Windozzzze will give you a warning at startup and you would need to press a function key (I think it is F1) to continue starting with a faulty CMOS battery.

Anyway, Tim, why use a separate program when you can synchronize the server with any of the major time servers out there and then use the /nettime command to keep workstations synched?

Actually, Lorne, we do use the built-in windows time service. It was someone else who recommended a third party program.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but our network is not online. I could see if your server didn't have that access that you might want to use the kinda of program that was referred to earlier.

We have never used any time service or program, and have had no problems, (until the date jumped back 4 years.)

We have had 8 workstations and 1 server for years. I just checked, and all 8 workstations time are a little different.

You could manually set and periodically check the time on the server and then set the workstations to synch to that time. That way at least you would have a consistent time across the network.

Laura,

Well if your server is not tied to the outside world, then the suggestion Tim made would be the ONLY viable option as ALL of the utilities are internet based as they all synch with one or more of the various Time Servers in different parts of the world.
