Title: 2nd hard drive
Post by mreaves53 on 02/25/05 at 06:16:34

I am the new guy on the block, so I may not even know how to ask the right question.

We have DBA on a SBS 2003.  The hard drive is almost full.  What is the easiest way to migrate, move, copy, or whatever to the empty hard drive #2? ???

Thanks

It may depend on how you are set up. The ideal way (I think) would be to copy the DBA directory to the new hard drive and re-map your workstations network drives to look at the new hard drive.

Also, unless you rename the second drive to the same as the 1st, you would need to re-install Pervasive as it will have pointers to data tables on the 1st drive and not the second.

If you are not moving Pervasive, then you do not need to reinstall it.  It doesn't have any internal pointers relative to the DBA data, only to itself and the operating system.

The only thing you have to watch out for is the pointers in the file locations database that you define in System Manager.

These have traditionally been absolute directory pointers.  Since all users default directory is dbamfg, then your file location pointers can all be relitive to that.

For example:
Absolute path = n:\dbamfg\default\bkicmstr.b

Equivalent Relative path = .\default\bkicmstr.b

This way, it does not matter what drive letter you have mapped as your dbamfg directory.

Actually, DBA has used relative paths for a long time for just that reason.
