Title: Global field search please
Post by cmsk on 11/02/05 at 05:04:06

I for one would love to have the abliity to do a global search on any given field instead of the linear type that's present now.  E.g., if I want to find the text "xxx" in all item description fields, then I simply wish the ability to search for it and have all those items displayed.  As it stands right now, you need know exactly how a particular items description starts to be able to search for it... not very practical with thousands of items in inventory.

You don't say which version you are on, :( so you may already have it. If your IN-A screen banner is Nov 22, 2004, you can do it, but it is not obvious. I thought there was a prior post explaining this, but I can't find it so here goes...
Go to IN-A. Do lookup in the item number screen. Doesn't matter what you search by at this point. When the list screen comes up, there is a search button in the lower right corner. Clicking this gives you 4 options:
1. Item number substring
2. Description substring
3. 2nd description substring
4. Desc or 2nd desc substring

If you don't have this, you might want to consider updating. Lots of cool new tools have been added.

Well how about that... It's been quite the informative day here...  :D

Thank you very much... Oh and I'm on the latest version BTW, sorry 'bout that.

This search function is also available just about anywhere you do an Item Number Lookup (WO-A, SO-A, PO-A, etc).

Correct, David, it is in the Inventory lookup library program which is called by all the places that look up inventory.
