Title: Opening Closed Sales orders
Post by kevind on 10/04/06 at 09:09:50

We routinely look at closed sales orders when providing customer service
or looking at items that a customer ordered last time.

When we do, we get the message
"This Sales Order is closed.  Do you want to Re-open it?"

Answering yes allows  you to look at the order, but it also saves the
"order is now open" flag.

It would be nice if the "order is now open" flag would only be saved
if the sales order were saved and there were items to ship.

I understand that if I save a closed order and there are no line items
left to ship, that another box is displayed asking if I want to Close it.

It would seem to make more sense to only flag the Order as opened if I
were to actually save it.

I drill into people that if they did not make any intentional changes
to something (spreadsheet, document, etc.), then they should
Close / Exit / Cancel (whatever avoids saving) instead of save.

Sometimes, they forget to save closed orders that have been opened,
and then orders are left in the open condition.

There are already several options for viewing closed Sales Orders. In SD-Q / Sales I / "Reopen Closed SO in SO-A?" you can institute a password for re-opening or make it so that people can "V" view the SO without reopening. We use V. In the occasional case where we need to reopen a closed SO, I change the setting to P, reopen the order for the billing clerk, then change the setting back to V. This has eliminated the problem of re-opened SO's for us.

There is also a "View sales orders" program SO-T that can view closed sales orders (line items will be 0 but it shows original order quantities) and you can also view the invoice(s) associated with the sales order.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will institute a combination of those.

BTW - does the View Invoices button in SO-A or SO-T work for anyone?

When i press it, I get a screen ready to list the Invoices, but
instead, my machine just sulks and I end up having to three
finger out of it.

Update:
I finally waited long enough.  It showed the invoice!!!  It took F O R E V E R.
I am running a 2.8G Dual Core P4 1G Ram 100BaseT direct link
to the server.
