Title: One time QC inspection
Post by JaySchmitendorf on 10/05/07 at 13:09:37

What is the best way to flag a purchased item for first item inspection?

Similarly, is the process useful for flagging the part after an Engineering Change has been made so the change can be double checked one time?    :)

We would also like to know if this is possible.

Our fairly combersome way of accomplishing this is to have Purchasing enter notes on the Purchase order like "Have Engineering inspect before receipt".  Since during our receiving process, Receiving prints a new copy of the Purchase Order to give to purchasing with the bin locations, quantities, etc written on it, Receiving will also see the note on the PO and will bring it for inspection.

A flag during PO or item entry would be much easier.

We set the "Receive to QC" flag to Y in IN-B, when new part numbers are created or changes made. This overrides whatever the receiver tries to do.  After QC approves, we change the flag to N. When the flag is turned on, it applies even if a PO has already been created and continues to apply until turned off.

Yes, our way is kind of a pain, but eliminates the purchaser forgetting to make the appropriate notes and receiving forgetting to read them, which is sometimes a problem. (Of course, the person creating the part number has to remember to set the flag to Y, so nothing is foolproof.)

We also use the Receive to QC=Y for new items and if they are approved then a note is added to the Receipt Traveler by QC to  inform  purchasing to change it to N the next time.  Also if we have an issue with a suppliers quality we simply change the flag.  Most of our incoming goods are dock to stock but this is a great tool.

HOWEVER, I would love if there was a way to print out the drawing (it's already linked to the part) when the receipt traveler is printed. That way QC could come to the inspection bench and all the drawings are ready and waiting.

P.S. Could you correct the forum time....it's showing my post as an hour in the future! And yes I am in Boston with DST enabled on GMT-5.

Along these same lines, we have added a feature (to be included in the next update) for PO-C to prompt or automatically print the receipt traveler for any items received to QC.  So if the IN-B flag is set to Y and the receiving person doesn't realize the receipt was to QC, the prompt to print the QC traveler will be a reminder.  I agree, linking the dcuments and even ITP to print as well would be good.  t will be added.

With this in mind we'd like also to access the QC notes that are also printed on this page.  I have tried several times to get a valid answer, or even any answer on this one and no one has heard my pleas. :'(

Could you imagine if the QC Notes on the QC Traveler was able to direct  the QC Inspector what to check for or what test method to use to inspect the item..... ::)
