Title: In/Out of house production questions. Post by Dawn on 11/01/07 at 13:41:09 Our company has decided to try and start finishing a product in house that has previously been completed by a vendor. We currently produce a part inventory it as A, ship it to a vendor, were it is assembled with other purchased parts that we inventory as M. We issue a purchase order for the quantity and relieve all inventoried items when the purchase order quantities are received. I need suggestions on how to bring this in house thru a work order without creating new part numbers. We will continue to use the vendor to complete some but the rest will be completed in house. I need to capture costs for in and out of house production and be able to tell the differenct between the two when looking at information. |

The only way I could imagine it, and I don't know since we don't use it, is to implement Lot Control. Set up two lots and receive all of one type into one Lot and the other type into the other Lot. Whether DBA has any current reports or other way to see the cost difference or not I don't know. I'm sure something could be done with Crystal or Access. Other than that, I don't see how this could be possible without using different part numbers for the finished items. |

Post by Dawn on 11/28/07 at 14:31:01 I discussed this with our production manager and we decided to create a second part number for in house production and then transfer finished goods from one part number to another when it comes time to ship and invoice. I'm sure there will be problems that I can't forsee yet. Does anyone have any ideas? |
