Title: EvoCoSettings.ini
Post by Lenette on 09/25/08 at 14:31:11

When trying to link files via the LINK-CHAIN in IN-B, I get the following error

Unable to write to T2\EvoCoSettings.ini

This makes it impossible to link files.

Do you have windows rights to create files in the T2 sub folder?  When the links file is run there is a convert Inventory Links to Evo Links button.. that button will appear until it is run once for each company. When that button is pressed it writes to the EvoCOsettings.ini file in the Company sub folder. When the program is run it checks this file to see if it should display the button. This is where I suspect you are getting the error.  You need rights to all the sub folders...

I have ultimate QUEEN BEE rights to everything.  I have changed the security settings on both the DBAMFG folder and the evocosettings.ini file to allow everyone to have full control and i still get the error.

We are on Windows Server 2003.

What else can I do?

what are the exact steps you do to get the error to happen?

Title: Re: EvoCoSettings.ini
Post by Lenette on 09/26/08 at 09:23:00

it happens only when clicking on the chain-link icon at the bottom of the screen AFTER you have saved an update to another part.

so i entered the links on part ABC123.
now i have a blank screen... open up the next part ABC678
click the chain-link icon and get the error.

I am having this same problem, where you click on the chain link button and it says Unable to write to T2\EvoCoSettings.ini.  We are also having a problem in inventory links if I add a file that has a longer file path name it only shows have of the file path name and wont open anything????  We just upgraded to EVO a couple weeks ago and the links was the main feature we wanted to use, it would be very disappointing to now learn that we cant link things with longer file path names.  Please help.........................................

speaking of the actual linking part.....

i don't like the fact in the "chain-link" section you have to had the printing links one at a time.

Also, can someone tell me why we have 2 link sections.  is one for classic and one for EVO?

I just want one place to add my links in the easiest possible manner.

The Inventory links was my first pass a links. Like the title suggests it is for Inventory Items (only)  and these work in Classic and have a limit of a 60 char path and file name.  The Evo links work line the notes do in the way you can link any thing two anything you want in Evo.. example a video to a WO routing,  packing instructions to a customer so when you print a packing slip the isnstuctions come out with it. etc..   Also the Evo links allow for 255 char path and file names.

All the links can be assigned to a grid using SU-A.  There is a section near the top of the SU-A screen for Links & Notes fields. These are the fields that you the users can assign to links or notes to.. So any grid can have any file, website, or what have you, assigned to a unique set of fields on a grid.

In short, Evo links replace Inventory links, and you should not be using inventory links if Evo links are turned on.
That said, I still needed to leave the Inventory links entry in IN-B for thoes users who choose not to use Evo links and only want to use the old Inventory links. In IN-B you should use one or the other. Either the Inventory Links field(s) on the screen, or the Evo links Button.

so if i'm suppose to be using one or the other (yes EVO links is turned on) then could that be causing the error.

is there some utility to remove all the old links at once?

ok... this 2 link option in DBA is creating chaos here.  The link line that is visiable is where everyone is looking and no one is looking at the chain links.

so of course if the chain links aren't entered or are incorrect, people think it's DBA instead of input errors.  UGH....  Maybe you could create a blurb that said... EVO LINKS ARE TURNED ON... CLICK THE CHAIN LINK BUTTON.

In any case, is there a quick way to remove all the dba links?
What about a report to verify all the chain link links??

The old style links are in BKQTTEMP, whereas new links are in the funky new system that stores stuff out in the shed in the backyard someplace. You can check what is in BKQTTEMP and clean up / delete / whatever the old links in there. Make a back up first, test the effects of what you do before going with wholesale changes, etc. for safety, but I would just use Maintain Database or a SQL query and clean house  :o

In the backyard in the shed in ANOTHER STATE is more like it.

I spent a lot of time cleaning up the DBA links only to realize i have a huge mess with the NOW TURNED ON Evo links.

WORST OF ALL.. is this darn EvoCoSetting.ini error that is preventing me from doing work (or even delegating it out).

I have changed security settings on our server, on our workstations and have deleted it out and yet, it still appears.  The only way to get past it is to close EVO and reopen.

This is still a problem for me.  I have even switched anti-virus/firewall software to see if it would help.  BUT NO GO!!!

PLEASE
PLEASE
PLEASE
PLEASE

Can someone help me????

I really need to link files to new parts.  Or, better yet, delegate it to someone else once the error goes away.

I think that you'll be best served in paying the $125 for a support call. Then the ball is in their court until it's fixed. The forum is nice but for really nasty problems you sometimes have to call.

Well geeeeezzzzzzz you'd think they'd just call me and bill me!!!!!!

Seems a bit presumptuous for a company to call you and offer to take your money. ;-)

But, the door is open, you just have to step through it.

Just for the record, I have never been oppposed to telephone tech support.  (I have spoke with Lynn several times on the phone.)

My support plan offers unlimited email support coupled with the ability to post questions here.  So I have done both of these things.  In my opinion, ,any times Lynn & group are overwhelmed with emails and posting here is the quickest way to get a problem resolved.  It also allows other to see if they have the same problem.  I assume if a number of people post "I have this problem, too" then it may get resolved in the next patch or update.

It seems strange to me that I am the only person with this problem which occured after the last update.  In my emails from Lynn on this subject, she implied that it is a netword security issue.  I have allowed everyone to do everything to that file and yet I still get the error.  Somehow, I didn't think Lynn was offering network security tech support.  Perhaps, her job description has changed and for $125 she'll have an answer that wasn't available in my "unlimited email support".

This group is filled with many amazing and talented individuals and I have learned so many things from them over the years.  Why stop now!

This is always a great place to start, if you have time. Obviously, emergencies should go directly to support, but we can be pretty timely here, too.  We do get a few people who will scream in their forum posts that they must have a fix right away, but they won't call for support. That can be a little annoying, and sometimes I feel like ignoring their posts altogether, but I usually try to help anyway.

As for baffling problems like yours that only seem to be happening with one person... well it really is hard to correct something you can't duplicate elsewhere. We all like to try, but our guesses may or may not be helpful. It is a crap shoot, but such is the nature of user forums  :)

On the other hand, if you are working with support and feeling frustrated over the email exchange, sometimes it is necessary to escalate. IS Tech has the ability to log directly in to your system and look at things for themselves.

Thanks to Allen's help, the problem is gone.  He sent me 2 new program files that fixed the problem.  If anyone else encounters this problem, pop me and email and I will forward the files on to you.

So am I suppose to pay in U.S. funds or Canadian dollars???
