Title: Update failed
Post by cathyh on 12/14/09 at 08:45:36

I tried on Friday to install the September 16 SP5 update and it failed.
First I tried it on the 2008 server and got an error message "List out of bounds(3)" -- it appeared that the first part of the install had finished step 2 (the progress bar was all the way to the right) and next should have come step 3, convert Existing dictionary.  The program hung, and I had to go into the task manager and quit the install.
I  put back the old DBA folder (with some difficulty, the server must have pervasive stopped to change the name, and apparently "Administrators" does not include my log in as "Administrator"!!)Retstarted the server and went to my workstation.
I tried the update on my workstation, which worked the last time for the May update (in August) and got the same message at the same point in the install- "List out of bounds (3)".  Could the hung install have damaged the update folder?  The one thing I did not do before trying on my workstation was to re-download the update.
HELP!

Does anyone have any clues on what may have caused the File out of bounds error on both server and workstation?

Well I tried again today and got the same result.  The program update ran until the "convert dictionary" phase (but not to step 3) and I got the same error "List out of bounds (3)"

are you applying Only the SP5? whereas you have already updated thru the SP4? or is this the complete update that has the SP5 in it?
i'd suggest one of the earlier update installers and then apply the SP. i would think Lynn could provide you a link to try and see if you run into the same problem.

The convert Data Dictionary step only applies to the complete update, not an SP.

What the update is doing can be executed manually if it fails at that point.  You have to use Task Manager to abort the update installation because if you tell it to cancel, it will uninstall all the files.

Then on your workstation, edit the C:\ISTS\TASPRO7.INI file so that the "DfltRunPrg=F:\DBAMFG\EvoERPMenu.rwn" line (Line 3 in the [Setup] section of the ini) is changed to "DfltRunPrg=F:\DBAMFG\WTASCVTDICT.rwn" where the F:\DBAMFG\ is whatever the correct path is to your server.  Double click on your Evo Local icon that you normally use to run Evo and it should load the Convert Codebase Dictionary program.  Click Continue and let it run.  Then edit the C:\ISTS\TASPRO7.INI again and change the same line to say "DfltRunPrg=F:\DBAMFG\EvoERPUPD.rwn".   Double click your icon again and the Update portion should run.  Click Update and it will run.  Then change your C:\ISTS\TASPRO7.INI back to say  "DfltRunPrg=F:\DBAMFG\EvoERPMenu.rwn".

Finally, edit the same line in the TASPRO7.INI file in the DBAMFG folder on the server to call  "DfltRunPrg=EvoWKSSetup.rwn"

I am installing the complete update.  My current version on my network is the May update, installed in August.  I will try what Lynn suggested.  As I said earlier, I never get to the convert data dictionary screen, but the verbiage in the first screen says "converting data dictionary".
Also, if I remember correctly, the abort using the task manager leaves the windows installer hanging also, and I have to restart.  Is this okay before running the data dictionary update manually?

Actually the screen said "convert dictionary" or at least that is what I wrote down....

Cathy -

If you continue to have problems, email me and I will log into your system and see what I can figure out.
