Title: Evo broken on two machines
Post by kkmfg on 06/09/10 at 07:02:51

We have two (out of 5 or so) machines which now cannot run EvoERP. The other machines are fine. These two can start evo and log in but cannot run much of any of the menu programs. Most menu items will just freeze evo. No screen ever comes up it just plain dies as soon as you select something. I've noticed that we seem to be able to run WO-A but not SO-A or IN-A or IN-B. I've tried erasing C:\ISTS and letting evo reinstall it. Evo will reinstall C:\ISTS but this makes no difference. The machines in question can run DBA Classic just fine and open the menu items they were not able to in EVO. Of course, DBA Classic would be using the TAS5 version whereas Evo would be TAS6 and 7 versions but other machines can run these programs just fine.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on here? I just don't know what could be different on these two machines...

Can the machines in question load WO-I (which is a TAS 5 program in all environments)?  Which version of WO-A are you using that will load?  T7?  Yet T7INA & B will not load?

Ok, I tried it on one of the machines.

I can run WO-A just fine. It appears to be the TAS7 version as it's got the little icons at the top.

I cannot run WO-I however. The whole EvoERP screen turns white and the program freezes.

IN-A will not run either.

Basically everything works though if the machine uses DBA Classic.

Is the user menu calling T7INA or T6INA or BKINA?  If it is not T7INA then the pattern appears to be thaT the T7 programs work but the T6 and BK do not.  If that is the case, then the problem appears to be the TP7RUNTIME.EXE.  T7 programs run within the EVOERP.EXE but T6 & BK call a new runtime (TP7RUNTIME.EXE) which should simply be a copy of EVOERP.EXE

It appears that your theory is correct. I tried manually running programs through the "Run TAS Program" menu option and if I type in a TAS7 version it will run. If I try a T6 or BK version it will not. I then tried deleting TP7RUNTIME from the affected machine and copying evoerp.exe in it's place but that doesn't fix it. :(

Is your firewall or anti-virus blocking TP7RUNTIME.EXE maybe?

Turned the firewall and anti-virus completely off. No change at all. Still locks up just the same...

Did you ever figure this out?  I have somebody else seeing the same thing on a Vista Home Premium workstation.

I had the same issue you describe - hanging on most but not all menu items.  I recently got around this issue by disabling a service (firewall) on my chipset.  I found it by going to start-->run-->msconfig where I was able to deselect certain services and reboot (repeat X 10 tries) until I found the culprit, and then Evo finally ran without any hanging issues.

To see if this process of elimination is even worth while a first step might be to reboot in safe mode with networking and try and run Evo.  When I did this I was able to use the program with no issues.

Good luck!
