Scan Bar Code for Shipping
03/19/04 at 14:50:59

Had a user request something that I suspect others may be interested in so I am looking for feedback.  In the shipping area, as items are packed to be shipped, have a program that does the following:

1.  Enter the Sales Order number that is shipping
2.  As items are packed, scan the bar code of the item and enter a quantity (or scan each and every piece one at a time).  If an item is scanned that doesn't belong on the sales order or it is over the SO Quantity, stop and alert the user so the item(s) can be removed.
3.  Release the SO based on the items packed.
4.  Indicate whether the order is complete or if some lines are still short.
5.  Print the packing list.

Is this of interest?  Any other features desired?

I would suggest the inclusion of an option to print an RTM form that can be used as a manifest as well as a report that would indicate backorders and or any overships sortable by customer code, SO number, Customer order number (PO), and date that could be printed in summary - one line per, or detail - with associated info.

And what happens if the same item number is used on 2 lines of the SO but say the second instance is a slightly different variation (i.e. a features and options configuration but same part number) or something? How would this program differentiate?

We ship a number of "mixed cases" each day, and track the weight of each, the total weight, and the carton count on each sales order, all manually. It would be nice to enter this info directly into DBA.

We do something similar to Bill.
We manually add info for gross weight, net weight, and number of containers shipping

Lynn,

Is there anything in the works on this project, or is it in a holding pattern?

Thanks,
Bill

It is in the "near term" pile rather than the "someday" pile.

We use a crystall report to pull the weights for shipping like the packing list. Having the choice to Bar-code all areas of production & shipping would definitely put DBA software on a whole new scale. Many companies are looking into ways to work smarter not longer.

The "Scan Items as they are packed" is now available as an add-on.
