Work Order Headers

The traveler header pulls the drawing number, revision level and other info from the current Item Master.  So, if you want to look at an old traveler you cannot tell what revision was built because it does not remain fixed.

We just started entering sign-offs and other production notes in WO-K-A so that we do not need to keep hard copy travelers for our records.  (Thanks Karen Mason!).  But, now I realize that we are going to lose the rev level it was built at and this is vital information!!

Can this kind of info be pulled into the work order files and remain fixed unless manually changed?

Thanks
Sharon

Yes, a non-changing rev/dwg. is neede.  ISO documentation would require knowing what revision level and date an item is produced to.

Karen - How do you currently handle this problem?  I am thinking about entering the rev # into the description since this field does get pulled into the work order and remains fixed.  However, that will be a lot of data entry for us!

Thanks for your input.

There are 10 lines of Notes in the WO database but for some perverse reason, only 6 or 7 actually are used so one of the extra ones could be used to store drawing and revision information pulled over at the time the WO is created.  I could also see some rationale for optionally updating the information when the WO is Released, since some design changes may occur before production is started.   What do you think?

Sharon,
I do not currently handle this problem.  We print out hard copies for storage purposes but I see problems down the road.

Your solution is as good as any.  We are currently using the description for other info that does not pull over into various reports (like the due date and heat code for our products).

Lynn,
That would be great to make this available.  If there are that many unused lines, it would be nice to have a couple available to the user for other uses and an option to print on various reports.

I see your point on the design changes.  A question to jog the user regarding update to current rev.level could be useful.  Currently, if I had a design change I would look at all workorders for that part in the system and update them individually.  I wouldn't leave it until the workorder is released-too much chance it may be missed.

I agree with Karen about updating the rev of the assembly.  We cannot wait until the work order is released to update the system.  It needs to be updated at the time of the change in order to drive parts and labor.  We often have changes that come after the work order is released too.  So, I need the ability to change the rev after release as well.

I don't mean to be pushy  Wink but how soon do you think an update like this could be implemented?  The reason I'm asking is I need to let production know how long we need to keep a redundant system of both electronic and hard copy records.

Essentially what is needed is a proper ECO tracking system....... Grin

A proper ECO tracking sytem would be wonderful,  but.....

A non-changing rev field would be a nice place to start! Smiley
