Archiving WO's and such
08/06/04 at 12:05:00

I just finished archiving old work orders, and re-indexing the work order files.  Are there any other steps that others are taking to safely reduce the volume of transactions in DBA?  Cheesy

SM-J-D, SM-J-J and AM-I are all candidates but read the Help to be sure you understand what they are going to do.

Mmmmm, after much experience with clients having situations where they suddenly had to go back and retrieve historical data, I generally don't recommend that anyone run those utilities. Because they are against accounting data it can often lead to being a pain in the ass.

You can always create a company that is a copy of your company before the utilities are run so you have a place to reference historical detail.  Then run the utilities on the active company.

That does sound like a very good plan, if I decide to run any of those utilities.  Thanks!  I already have some experience with running them.  I have consolidated inventory transactions for 2002, but was not happpy with the results.  I think I must have run one utility to test it for June 2002 ( the first month we were on-line with the accounting) and a different one for the months 7-12 of 2002 because I got two different descriptions.  With June it was "Consolidate Inventory Transactions", and the rest of the dates said "Monthly Consolidation".  Also, the June transactions show up in the Inventory transaction list after the July to December ones!  Also, I think I  thought the individual transactions would still be present in the work order module in JC-E but they are not.  I agree with you both that proceeding with these utilities should be done with caution!

PS-- I just did alittle investigation and the Monthly Consolidation transactions form July to December 2002 have a year of 0002 when I look at them in the Maintain Database, and 1902 when I look at them in a linked table in Access!  ???
