Create New Company
11/10/04 at 12:41:11

I'm using Version 2002.3 and am wondering how many different companies I can create (15?).  Am I limited to a certain number or just by what my system can handle?

You can create as many as you want up to the windows file size limit. In other words if you go beyond 64 MB in the lowest file level, you will find you will start getting errors. (Yes, Lynn, I DID test this quite some time ago - by accident, but nonetheless....).

DBA can handle individual file sizes up to 2 Gig.  Beyond that, the way Pervasive handles the larger files is incompatible with TAS 5 Classic DBA.  Haven't tested with Evo yet.  I think Lorne may be referring to a limit on the number ofr files in a given folder, not the size of any one file.

Try creating a data file of say 90 MB. Could be BKGLTRAN as an example. Make sure other files are reasonably similar in size (10-70 MB), and then try doing some transactions. You will start to get posting errors and Pervasive read/write errors.

BKGLTRAN.B = 125 MB
INVTXN.B = 134 MB

No errors that I'm aware of.

Should I be worried?

Well, all I can tell you is what I experienced. Started getting weird errors when the data files started getting too large. Seems Pervasive had trouble managing the I/O process and the cache management.

I have never seen errors attributable to file size Tim, I would not be worried.  I have seen BKGLTRAN well in excess of a million records.
