Inventory Attachments
11/18/04 at 09:04:21

Something one of our user brought up, which sounds like a good idea, is a list of attachments associated with an inventory item.

This would be a simple list of filenames (and their location) linked to individual items.

We're a chemical compounder, so here is an example of how we would use it.  Product A has a Material Safety Data Sheet, Environmental Data Sheet, and a Technical Data Sheet.  What we want to be able to do is bring up Product A in DBA, click a button, and be presented a list of the documents attached to the item number.  If we click on one of the documents, it loads in the appropriate program.

Hope this didn't come out confusing.

Ummmm, ISTS already DOES have a linking program. If you save the files as PDF it will work "out of the box".

Doh!  What's that saying about snakes?  I think I've been bit!  Wink

I just piddled with that a bit and I have a comment comments on that feature.

First, to enter a link, you have to go into IN-B, enter the item number and tab a zillion times to get to the link window.  It would be MUCH smoother if a simple button was added at the bottom called "LINKS" that can be pressed to bypass all that tabbing.

Second, the link field isn't long enough.  Twice the length might be ok.  I don't want to have to redo my entire data drive to squeeze everything in.

Third, a "browse" option is must.  For both the link and the program associated with it.

Lastly, I'd recommend "Image Link" be renamed to "External Link" or something similar.  I've seen the "Image Link" but assumed it was for a graphic image.

Thanks!

All of Jon's suggestions are good and are one's I'd like to see in future updates.
