Item desriptions please
06/13/06 at 10:25:47

I find it hard to believe that no one else wishes for more available characters in the description fields.  The two for each item of only 30 characters or so, are simply not enough.  They may be great for pointed item keywords, but how about a searchable description paragraph, allowing say 255 characters?  Heck, I'd even be happy with 75-100 characters.

That would be nice.

BTW, did you know that the description(s) is(are) searchable? At least the current Evo is - don't remember just where and when it came on board, but it's great.

We could use an ADDITIONAL Detailed Description.

In our price book, we have a Detailed Description that is worded more
from a Sales Standpoint.  This description is not
used or desired anywhere else (WO, PO, etc.).

We cannot use the SPECS data area because it is too combersome.
We need to use this area for more detailed
information for our vendors on PO's.

I would like to see a small button that could be clicked
next to the description that displayed a full screen for
free form text.  This would allow total automation of
our price book generation without trying to maintain
another datasource (excel sheet, access database etc.)

I would like to see the basic 2 line description expanded to
50 characters each and the Vendor Item Number expanded
to 50 characters.

I've mentioned this before, but it seems to me that many years ago DBA was going to expand these fields.  I quess they waited to do that in NG.  We would like to see at least 30 characters in the Item # and 50 in the description.

It would be very nice to have expanded description fields of say 50 characters for both line 1 and 2.

Also, it would be great to have a searchable free form text box that notes could be inserted into but that will never print.  This would allow CSRs to input information about products, potential upsell/cross promotions, etc.  Since it would not print on SOs or POs, it would be private just  for the company.

Well it's good to "hear" that I'm not the only one who could / would use more space.

Great feedback, keep it up and hopefully we'll see this in a upgrade very soon.. nudge!!! Smiley

Yes, David I did know and use ALL of the time.  In our industry (as well as many others) so many people refer to the same item as so many different things.  I can usally tell what someone is looking for, but some of the office staff who deal more directly with customers and parts, have no idea how to distinguish between all of the aliases and "lingo."  So that is part of why we could use expanded descriptions.

There was a similar thread in another section referring to Notes in general that we already responded to.  We are working to add Notes across the board.
