Drop-downs used to stay down
03/21/07 at 11:05:23

In dba the drop-down menus used to stay down but in Evo they don't.

In dba, when you exitted from a window (say SO-E), the SO drop-down would still be open, allowing you to simply type a letter (say "F" for SO-F) to onto the next operation more quickly.

In Evo, you have to move the mouse/cursor back up to SO to reopen the drop-down field.
When doing a lot of operations, this extra step adds a consideable amount of time.

Can we go back to the way it was?

In Evo, I removed that function. But I can put it back in if you like.
It was only partially working, it has to do with the GUI programs not acting like the Classic programs.
I am looking into it now.

It's not a big deal normally.
I just spent 12 hours adjusting average prices on inactive inventory that is being written off for tax purposes and that's when I noticed it the most.
Thanks.

Common menu items, or any program that I will be using repeatedly, I assign to hot keys so that I can bypass that whole mouse-clicking waste of time. I got so used to using F keys back in the WordPerfect days that slapping Ctrl-F1 for IN-A happens faster than I could get my right hand to the mouse  Cheesy

Cool, I didn't even know that you could do this.  Where do you set this up?

It's been proven time and again that that keyboard commands are MUCH faster than the mouse when navigating various software.

In TAS-G there is a column named "Fast Sel" where you can choose from a list. It is set up by user so each person can have their own. I'm very mean. I have not set this up for anyone but myself :weg:

Ditto. The keyboard is SOOO much faster than the mouse for that.

However, I'm not sure I would prefer that the menu stays open. I used to like it (before the FastSel Hot Keys), but the problem is that the FSHKs don't work when the menu is down, which means an extra keystroke in that case.

I vote for the Classic behavior, with the menus staying open.  Like for WO-D, everyone here is long used to flying thru series of "D : Key in WO# : <F10> : P : Enter : D..." (loop to start).  If the menu stays open like Classic, isn't this a simpler, single-keystroke (D), versus a two-finger hotkey of some sort that has to be setup individually on each client? Even Colin hadn't gotten around to doing it for his users.

The Hotkey's a nice feature (which apparently lots of us hadn't discovered) and I might use it for something, but I think there's probably a segment of the customer base who never have, and never will, get beyond the pre-installed, no-configuation-needed features.

But good news is, we  can have it both ways, if the fix is done to allow Hotkeys to work inside an open menu - possible?

I really would like this changed in EVO.

In the beta that I tried, this feature is back. We'll see if it shows up in the next patch and if there is an on-off switch in SD-Q

Only on my test system. On the live system I have to deal with about 40 viruses (a.k.a. users).
