SO numbering
04/11/08 at 10:33:36

We have had a couple of cases lately where the sales order entered is assigned a number, get to the first line item and then exit, and we get the question "Cancel adding this sales order?" to which we say yes.  The counter is still advanced so we lose a sales order number.  The people who have always been the ones to add sales orders say it did not do this in the past.  True or False??

Also, when we do enter a SO number out of sequence, the question about reseting the counter does not come up.  I know for sure that it used to.

If you leave the header screen an SO # is grabbed. Been like that as long as I can remember.

As for the change in numbers, I can recall getting that question in the PO module, but I don't recall if I ever tried it in SO-A.

I noticed for a long time that if you go back to the header after entering line items and save the SO from the header screen the next time you enter an order it "exits" as soon as you try to enter a line item. For that reason I always go back to the line item screen before saving if there was a need to look at the header after entering line items.

True.  Many updates back.  I would say at least 2 years ago, and probably more.

If I  remember correctly, there were some multi-user and/or record locking problems that
were solved by assigning the SO number when you went to the line item screen.

Actually, the reason it happened was because the actual SO-A program got too big for the compiler (TAS 5) to handle so it was split into 2 programs - one for the header and one for the line items.  This was back around 1999 or 2000 as I recall.  When the program was split, it was necessary to pull the order number when you moved from the header to the lines so that it could keep track of what lines belonged to what order during the entry process.
