Consistent numbering for Work Order Suffix#'s
05/28/08 at 07:19:13

Is it possible to generate work orders such that on the initial work order and all subsequent work orders for a particular BOM, the suffix portion of the work order number will always be assigned to the same sub-assembly, regardless of the prefix.

For example, when we generate a Work Order for a BOM identified as 2900, we will assign the Work Order (the "Pull") as 290001.  Creating an example, the cover assembly (a sub-assembly) for this Pull will be assigned 290001-4.  Continuing the example, When we are ready to run another Pull for that BOM, we will assign it 290002, but the cover assembly may be assigned 290002-6 instead of -4.

If we could consistently get the cover assembly (all sub-assemblies, for that matter) to be assigned the same suffix number as the previous work order's suffix number, it would eliminate shuffling through hundreds of sheets of papers when the assembler needs to Enter Labor in DC-A, in order for them to find the correct Work Order number, since the suffix would always be the same.

Is there a better way for us to assign work order numbers, so that our numbering scheme can be consistent?
