RMA QUESTION
06/20/08 at 12:29:59

Hi everyone - I have the following situation a repair of a finished goods part that I have converted into a work order.  There is a component part in the finished good that I would like to remove and put back into stock, then I want to replace with a similar part, does anyone know how to do this?  When I convert the repair FG part to a WO it does not bring the BOM over so I dont know how to remove the component part from the FG returned part.

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Use WO-G to issue the part taken out as a negative (-1) and the part put in as positive. The program will ask if you want to add the parts to the WO BOM and you answer Yes.

Thanks for the advice, I tried it and it seemed to work good I am just having one problem still.  When I took the component part out of my returned FG using WO-G the corresponding entry booked was a decreasing my WIP account and increasing the inventory account in which that component belongs to.  I have a problem with that because the value of the component I am removing from the returned FG is not in my WIP account (it would be in CGS from when I originally sold the item) - therefore my WIP would be understated by that components value.  Hopefully I am making sense.......................anyone know what to do now?

This is what our Finance and Sales people are complaining about and one of the primary reasons why they refuse to start using the new module (they've been "testing" it for about 12 months now...).  Can anyone please get to us some really good documentation on this new RMA module the explains they whys behind some of the stuff? At this point, the sales manager said they are not converting, and they want to ask Lynn/Allen to just make enhancements to the old system, and I can't get them beyond that request because they just don't think the new RMA system works.

Here is an option that we considered. Start using the new RMA module in a separate company. Make a copy of your company and use it to process repairs for awhile and see what happens, where the gozinters and gozouters wind up, etc.

My opinion is that the RMA module is a great program, but it still needs a few kinks worked out.

That is what I asked them to do in December, and they said (and they did) they played with it a lot in our test companies for a few months, and the finanance/sales staff member tried to understand how it was hitting inventory, WIP, and COGS--and they had issues with it.  But instead of documenting what they didn't like (or didn't understand), they just say it stinks.  I said "it stinks" doesn't help Lynn or Allen fix things.  If you think something needs to be changed, write it up and give it to me if you don't want to post to the forum yourself.

And there have been some fixes since then, so it would have been nice to look back at your documentation and compare it to the list of fixes to see if their issues have been resolved. With software bugs, you really do help yourself by helping others.

Since last August I have spent many hours working with the RMA module, reporting bugs, trying fixes, cleaning up my Lot and Serial number issues, and dealing with a grumpy user. It would have been very helpful to have comments from other serious users/testers.

The RMA/Service modules can be assigned to different warehouse Locations which in turn can be assigned to different GL Accounts in SM-C to accomplish what you want.  It doesn't "stink"; it just needs to be set up to post where you want it to.

Lynn, you know I DON'T THINK IT STINKS!

It's some of our users, and it's (I think) because they just don't understand what they need to do, or don't think they should have to make changes to make it work how they think it should--you know.  It's hard for some people to try to figure stuff out on their own--a lot of people rely heavily on documentation, and struggle when they don't have it.  Anyway, I am still pushing them to go to the new module and have essentially said the old one is history soon.  I'll pass along to Finance (Nancy and the gang) the idea of assigning the modules to different warehouse locations and hence different GL accounts and see if that helps.  I know what Nancy would need are some instructions and examples.

Thanks,
