What has happened to the Help files?
07/27/09 at 17:01:09

I have not been actively using DBA Classic for last 18 months or so and I may be getting a bit out of touch but, after installing the May 2009 update, I noticed that clicking the Help button in various menu screens does not work. Also the F1 button, while in the same menu screens, does not work.  I get an error message which says "The topic does not exist.  Contact your application vendor for an updated Help file. (129)."

I tested the unmodified 2004.1 version from DBA, as a sanity check, and all the Help features there work as usual.

I then restored to the ISTech 12/28/08 version and noticed that, while the Help button and F1 key in the menu screens now work, the links to the Help files all seem incorrect.  For example in DC-A Enter Labor/Production, if I click the Help button, or F1 key, it opens up the Help file for DC-C Enter Labor Only.  I tried this in about 8 or 9 different menus, and they all pull up an incorrect Help file.

If my memory serves me right I did notice a change to the format of the Help files, probably about 6/9 months ago, but never checked further.

Does anyone have an answer, or is this one for Lynn's programmers?

Thanks
John M

I loaded some of the older updates and it appears that the 08/04/08 update is OK.  The problem appears in the 12/21/08 update and gets worse in the 05/25/09 update.

I'm on 12/21/08 and have no problems with the help. DC-A goes to DC-A help file and no errors. Perhaps the updates to the help files is not always installing correctly?

Colin, thanks for your feedback.  I had been moving between different update versions using restore points on my computer and still getting problems.  I had the exact same problems on my desktop and laptop.

However, this time I updated to 12/21/08 from 08/04/08 using the update zip file and this time it seems to be working perfectly.  As you said, something must have gone wrong with the initial update.

So thanks again for your help.

I did find an issue with the DBAHELP.CNT file in the May update and it has been fixed.  Download from www.istechsupport.com/dl/dbahelp.zip
