SO-A Line Item Status button

What is this status button in the line items screen of SO-A?  I don't enter sales orders, so I've not paid attention as to if this was there before.  Customer Service says it's new. We could not find out any info in the online help as to what its purpose is.

er.... could this be related/used by the new SR module?  If so, any documentation?
